Review of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

By GBAMFS Contributor Czardd (Vtuber)

Come traveler, hear my review –

Throughout my journey, I've experienced many things. Please take a seat by the hearth and let me tell you a story! This is a tale about gameplay, immersion, art, and more. We begin as we embark on our journey through the eyes of Hans, valiantly fighting against an army seemingly set in a battle of defense. I felt it! Every blow I landed on my foe brought me deeper into the experience!

What about the gameplay, the story and the political upheaval? I see you have questions traveler! Fret not, for I have more to tell! The gameplay in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is itself enthusiastic! How can this be? When you feel that swing of a sword you will know what I mean! It feels both powerful and the sound of each swing is so convincing it can barely be described in words. When I felt the weight of taking an NPC's life, I knew! The visual and sound design are something special. In a word–immersive!

The story rises out of the ashes of Henry's wake—a classic choices-matter approach on par with the best of bard's legends! It has kept me drawn in and made me laugh, cry, and become religious all at the same time! If you enjoy crafting for example, you'll find the system deep and rewarding. Fans of chivalrous knight-play will find this game suits your fancy. The Templar-Crusader or Paladin purging the non-believers will get ahead here too! Or do you want to be a scholar persuading and debating in the courts of nobility? Then, we have our game!

[Protip: Stealth/Charisma will make your gameplay easier if you are not a fan of wheel combat!]

Let us speak now of of the game's edge; the darkness of KCD2. The Rogue-Stealth has improved fifty-times over that in KCD1. I do feel, though, that lock-picking got downgraded and for console players that has probably been pretty tough. I have yet to play as a bandit, but I can only imagine the chaos that awaits. Too, I have yet to play the archer (with the return of mutt hunters-classic move of the inferior mortal races!)

There has also been a downgrade (or upgrade) to the skill system. For me, I liked seeing my numbers go up more often in KCD2 but there are those who might not like this change. It's better for the casual dad-players who buy one game a year and play it for 15 minutes to an hour a day. The game is accessible to fans and newcomers of RPG genres.

Games, being interactive art, must show merit in both areas and in that order in my opinion. So gameplay must come first, aesthetics after. Warhorse nailed both, proving it can be done with the right amount of passion and talent! Gorgeous landscapes, sprawling fields of greenery and life! Dark forests spanning the map spew an eerily thick fog around Henry enveloping him in darkness, adding to the sense of danger throughout your travels in Bohemia.

Now let me ask, will you rise to the challenge, or will you fall this day? I think not; it is not through our words that show who we are but through the blood, sweat, and tears of passion that evidently went into this game. Truly revolutionary and imaginative! I can never go back to the AAA games we've gotten lately... It blows my mind to see the quality that passionate devs, who poured their heart and soul into this, have produced!

Warhorse knows gamers deserve the best. They have served their audience well–I still dream about Kotsenburg! The first time I saw it my jaw dropped and it was truly an expression of passion.

I can now say that this game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, is presently in my Top 5 games/series of all-time. Knocking Assassin's Creed off that list. Warhorse should be proud of what they've accomplished. The success of this title is well-deserved in my opinion!

If you like what you hear, traveler, will you not lean in and give this epic adventure a go? You shan't be disappointed! :)
